Elementary School Band provides students in the fifth grade an opportunity to build a strong musical foundation with one of the basic instruments of the woodwind, brass, or percussion families. No prior knowledge of music is required.
Middle School Band is designed to give continuing students further training with their instruments by introducing them to a broader range of techniques, rhythms and more difficult music. The intermediate band will also have more performance opportunities than the beginning band. The intermediate band includes students in grades six, seven and eight. Prior instrumental training is strongly encouraged.
High School Band is designed to further develop our students through the introduction of more advanced music, techniques and concepts. The advanced band is made up of students in grades nine through twelve and is divided into four different performance concentration areas during the school year: Basketball Pep Band, Christmas Concert, competition, and Spring Concert. Throughout the year, students will have numerous opportunities to perform both collectively and individually. Prior instrumental training is strongly encouraged.
The GCA band program is a member of the Texas Associate of Private and Parochial Schools. Through TAPPS, the band students have opportunities to participate in several performance opportunities which include the Solo and Ensemble Festival, the All-State Honors Band, the Junior High Honors Band, the Concert and Sight-Reading Festival, and the District and State Championship Competitions. In these performance arenas, the GCA band program has been blessed with a history of success. To the glory of God and by his grace, we have earned honors ranging from “Best in Class” at the Sandy Lake Band Fun-Fest to consistent superior ratings at local and state contests, back-to-back TAPPS District Championships (1998-99), and the TAPPS State Championship in 1999.
